“Shadows of the Forgotten” is a larp about passion, family, regret, fate, hope, and death in a small Ukrainian village nested in the heart of the Carpathian mountains. It is inspired by the novel Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors by Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi, and the iconic 1965 movie of the same name.
As players, you will take part in rituals and family drama in a place forgotten by time, where the line between the mundane and the sacred blurs. The genre is magical realism: everyday village life coexists with forest spirits, witchcraft, and the Shadows of the dead. Together we play out five seasons of the village's life: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, and then Spring again. Each season begins with the community gathering for a traditional ritual. The rest of the season is free play, allowing players to explore their character's relations and conflicts as they change with the passage of time
Players will receive a pre-written character of a villager. Most characters can be played by players of any gender. No preparation is required. Wear white or neutral-colored clothing.
